Florida, last season's national champion and the top-ranked team since the preseason, dropped to No. 2 in the latest Associated Press Top 25 college football poll.

Alabama, which received 10 first-place votes last week, got 39 out of 59 from the media panel Sunday to take over the No. 1 spot. Florida received the other 20 first-place votes.

Rounding out the top 5 are Texas at No. 3, followed by Southern Cal and Cincinnati.

The AP poll is not factored into the Bowl Championshp Series standings set for release later today.

The Gators, who improved to 6-0 Saturday after escaping with a 23-20 win over unranked Arkansas, are still the No. 1 in the USA Today coaches' poll, which does matter in the BCS rankings.

Alabama is No. 2 in the coaches' poll, with Texas at No. 3, USC is No. 4 and Boise State is at No. 5.

Barring upsets in the regular season, Alabama and Florida will meet again in the SEC Championship Game in Atlanta in December. The winner there is expected to play Texas for the national championship.
