Gainesville Sun columnist Pat Dooley breaks down Florida-LSU from Baton Rouge, La.
OFFENSE: A-
First half: Florida only had three possessions and scored on two of them. The other drive ended at the LSU 21 on a fourth-down reverse.
Second half: Despite a red-zone failure and an interception, the offense controlled the second half.
For the game: Gators had a conservative game plan and executed it well enough to get the win.
DEFENSE: A+
First half: Gators were stout early, allowed the one drive in the second quarter but stopped LSU from getting into the end zone.
Second half: Florida's heralded defense came through with big sacks at big times in the second half.
For the game: Florida held Jordan Jefferson to under 100 passing yards and sacked him five times, four of them in the second half.
SPECIAL TEAMS: B
First half: Caleb Sturgis followed his made field goal with a booming kickoff deep into the end zone. UF covered kickoffs well.
Second half: A miss and a make and the miss wasn't by much for Sturgis; perhaps UF's punt rush was in the mind of LSU's punters.
For the game: Special teams weren't a big factor but certainly Florida did not lose the battle.
OVERALL: A
The Gators manned up in Death Valley, quieting a throaty crowd and staying the course for all of their goals.
