An Interlachen teen and a Melrose man were killed Tuesday afternoon when the sedan they were in rear-ended a school bus on Blanding Boulevard and caught fire.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Elisabeth C. Brantley, 19, and Paul P. Bruchesky, 48, were pronounced dead at the scene.
A back-seat passenger, Samantha Brantley, 16, of Interlachen, was seriously injured and taken to Shands at Jacksonville.
Four of the 22 students on the bus - ages 10, 11, 11 and 12 - were taken to Orange Park Medical Center, where they were treated for minor injuries and released.
The bus driver, Dawn Hingson-Green, 38, of Keystone Heights, was not injured.
The crash happened on Blanding Boulevard at Santa Clara Avenue at 3:05 p.m. as the bus was taking students home from their Middleburg schools, according to a crash report by FHP Trooper M. Torres.
FHP investigators concluded that the 2010 model school bus was northbound on Blanding Boulevard and had stopped at the intersection with Santa Clara Avenue to make a left turn.
A 2003, four-door Pontiac being driven north on Blanding Boulevard by Elisabeth Brantley hit the back of the bus and caught on fire, Torres wrote in his report.
