Gainesville Police have arrested one of three people alleged to be involved in the severe beating and robbery of a 17-year-old early Monday morning.
Witnesses told police that the victim was dragged and beaten over a three-block area around 4 a.m. ending up in the 1400 block of Northeast First Avenue. The attackers rummaged through his pockets and took his wallet and hat. The victim was taken to an area hospital with injuries that police said were severe but not life-threatening.
Police gave the name of the person arrested as Donnie Nattiel, 45, of Gainesville. He was arrested and charged with kidnapping, battery, strong-armed robbery and drug possession. His two alleged accomplices were still being sought.
Officers Rob Concannon and John Hatfield were dispatched to the scene and said they found Nattiel and an apparent witness walking away from the area.
Based on the victim's injuries and statements by witnesses, police said it appeared that three people beat and kicked the 17-year-old. They recovered the teen's wallet and hat.
The incident remains under investigation as police look for a motive for the attack.
