Israeli point guard admitted to UF

<p>Israeli point guard Nimrod Tishman is moving closer to becoming a Gator.</p><p> An athletic department source confirmed Monday that Tishman has been admitted to Florida. The final hurdle is the NCAA Clearinghouse, which will review Tishman's amateur status. If cleared, he will enroll at Florida in time for the start of the fall semester Aug. 24.</p><p> The 6-foot-6 Tishman averaged 18.6 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.8 assists at the Under-18 European Championships in France last month. Florida associate coach Larry Shyatt watched Tishman play there. Analysts have compared Tishman's game to former Florida point guard Nick Calathes because of his court vision and ability to play multiple positions.</p><p> Israeli citizens are required to serve up to three years in the military after high school, but Tishman can apply to have the service deferred if he attends college overseas.</p><p> Florida has just one true point guard on scholarship, sophomore Erving Walker. The Gators failed on attempts to land point guard recruits John Wall, Eric Bledsoe and Lamont Jones this spring. Wall and Bledsoe both ended up at SEC East rival Kentucky. Jones went to Arizona.</p>
