A pursuit by a Cross City officer after a failed traffic stop ended when the motorcyclist the officer was following lost control of his vehicle early Wednesday, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.
Cleve Allen Young, 40, of Cross City, was seriously injured and taken to Shands at the University of Florida after the wreck on County Road 251 and Southeast 39th Avenue in Dixie County, according to troopers. The accident occurred at about 12:30 a.m.
A Cross City police officer told troopers he tried to stop Young due to a series of moving traffic violations. When the officer activated the emergency lights on his vehicle, he reported Young tried to flee but lost control of his motorcycle at a curve in the road at the Southeast 39th Avenue intersection, FHP reported.
The 2004 Kawasaki motorcycle went off the road and overturned, ejecting Young.
The motorcyclist was flown to the Gainesville hospital for treatment, according to FHP.
Charges in the case are being filed by the Cross City Police Department, officers reported.
It was not immediately known if Young was wearing a helmet at the time of the wreck, a report from troopers stated.
