Mark Ellis, right, is congratulated by third base coach Mike Gallego after hitting a two-run home run off Detroit Tigers pitcher Rick Porcello in the fifth inning of Monday's game.

It didn't take long for Mark Ellis to make his presence felt again with Oakland.

After sitting out nearly two months on the 60-day disabled list with a severely strained calf, Ellis returned to the lineup and second base on Sunday. In three games back for the Athletics, Ellis has already logged two home runs, one each in his second and third games back.

Ellis struggled at times during a 10-day minor league rehab stint, but has shown no signs of rust in his return to the big leagues.

Ellis’ homer on Monday was his first since last Aug. 18. The A's veteran took the opportunity after that game to implore his teammates to raise their games along with him soon.

“Certain guys in this lineup, it’s our job to get those timely hits,” said Ellis. “No matter where we are in (the standings), when we’re in a position to win a game, we’ve got to get those hits, and good things will happen.”

Ryan Sadowski was the hottest former Gator pitcher in the minors. The San Francisco Giants noticed.

Sadowski, a rarely used arm during his stay with the Gators, made his big-league debut in blazing fashion.

After tossing six shutout innings in a win over Milwaukee, Giants manager Bruce Bochy made it known that his new hurler is here to stay.

"Right now, the plan is to give him another start," Bochy said, before back-tracking. "I don't want to leave it as a start at a time. He's in the rotation."

Texas reliever Darren O'Day has a bit of a streak going.

The last time O'Day walked a batter was June 8 at Toronto. That was nine appearances and 10 strikeouts ago.

Former Gator Gavin Dickey was placed on the seven-day disabled list by West Tenn after straining his right quad in game one of a double-header against the Montgomery Biscuits. Dickey was promoted to West Tenn on June 14 and has played in four games with the Jaxx, going 5-for-12 at the plate with two RBIs.
