A Bradford County grand jury issued a first-degree murder indictment against one of two men arrested last month for killing a Starke resident, the Starke Police Department reported.
Following a grand jury hearing last week, Demetrio Tyler, 24, of Fernandina Beach also was indicted for armed burglary of a dwelling and carrying a concealed firearm.
Tyler and another man, Leonard Terrell Williams, 26, of Jacksonville, have been held without bond at the Bradford County jail since they were arrested on a murder charge in the death of Decoveya Rodragus Desue, 28.
Desue was found dead inside an apartment at 5000 Allison Way on June 5. He had been shot multiple times. Investigators now believe the motive for the murder was drug-related.
Williams remains in custody, and Starke police continue to investigate the case, Capt. Barry Warren said Wednesday. Citing the ongoing investigation, Warren declined to comment further about the fatal shooting.
The police department had earlier indicated Tyler and Williams apparently didn't know Desue.
"It is sad that two people would drive to Starke or any other place to end the life of a young man that they may not have personally known," said Starke Police Chief Jeff Johnson in a statement released after Tyler's and Williams' arrests.
Police also are awaiting results from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement regarding ballistic comparisons and other evidence analysis in the case.
