Former Gator Dara Torres, who won three silver medals as a 41-year-old swimmer at the Beijing Olympics, will receive the Best Comeback award at next month’s ESPY Awards.
Actor Samuel L. Jackson will host the awards that honor the best achievements, moments and leading athletes of the previous year. They will be presented July 15 at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, with the taped show airing July 19 on ESPN.
Fans will determine winners in 37 categories through online and mobile phone voting that begins Thursday and runs through July 11.
Florida quarterback Tim Tebow is nominated for "Best Male College Athlete" and is also a candidate in the "Best Moment" category for his post-game speech after the Gators lost to Mississippi.
Another Gator football player, incoming freshman Andre Debose, is nominated in the category of "Under Armour All-America Moment." Debose took a deep pass from LSU quarterback commitment Russell Shepard and split defenders for a 92-yard touchdown.
