Van was originally a part the 2009 recruiting class and played high school ball at Helix High in La Mesa, Cali., as a running back and defensive back. He finished his senior year with 1,237 yards and 10 touchdowns off 139 carries.
Van told Rivals.com that an injury during the spring semester of his junior year caused him to pull out of school, and put him behind academically. Instead of going the junior college route, Van opted to go to prep school instead.
He will enroll at Milford Academy this fall and is expected to enroll at UF in January.
“The opportunity to play (at Florida). The atmosphere, the players the coaching staff, the way Urban Meyer runs his program like a family, I felt like I fit in,” Van told Rivals.com “I know people here are talking about me being far away from home, but it's like another family there with the comfort they give you.”
Van also had scholarship offers from USC and Miami.
