SANFORD, Fla. — A woman who kidnapped a newborn from the maternity ward of a central Florida hospital is set for sentencing.
Prosecutors are asking for 40-year-old Jennifer Latham to be sentenced Wednesday to life in prison.
Latham pleaded guilty Feb. 10, the day her trial on kidnapping and burglary charges was supposed to start. Her public defender said the Sanford woman did not make a plea deal with prosecutors.
Authorities say Latham posed as a hospital employee when she took a baby boy from the maternity ward at Central Florida Regional Hospital on March 28, 2008.
The day-old child was later found unharmed in Latham's car.
