Five questions with Georgia senior guard Corey Butler.

Q: How has the experience been so far with interim head coach Pete Herrmann?

A: It’s been a great experience. Most players go through their collegiate careers not experiencing an interim coach and having to go through a situation of losing their head coach. It’s definitely been a great learning experience and coach Herrmann is a great coach. He’s bringing a tremendous amount of energy, and I really appreciate that.

Q: How is the team staying motivated despite being winless in the SEC?

A: You’re a basketball player. The only thing that drives you is to get a win. As long as that’s driving you, you’re going to continue to get better. We’re a great bunch. We love each other and stay together, hang together and keep fighting for each other.

Q: Does Florida and Georgia’s football rivalry extend to the basketball court?

A: I think it does extend to the basketball court, but unfortunately we haven’t been very competitive with them the past few years. I’m going into my last game against the University of Florida, and I haven’t beat them in the four years I’ve been here. I’d definitely love to walk away from here with a win against Florida and Tennessee, the only two (SEC) teams I haven’t beaten since I’ve been here.

Q: The team has just five upperclassmen and 10 underclassmen. As a senior, how have you been a leader for the younger players?

A: Most people measure success on wins and losses. I measure mine on whether under my leadership, have my younger teammates that are going to be here after I leave, have they gotten better under my leadership as individual players, as teammates and as students. That’s what I measure it on. Hopefully we’ll see the progression next year. I just want guys to get better every day, stay competitive every day and give their all. I believe if you do that, there’s no way to go but up.

Q: What musical artist do you listen to before games?

A: Lately, I’ve been listening to a lot of Nas. Nassir Jones, I’ve always listened to him since high school.
