Roundup: Buchholz, Fort White, Taylor out

For the second consecutive year, the Buchholz girls soccer team saw its season ended by Flagler Palm Coast in the FHSAA Class 6A Region 1 quarterfinals.

In 2008 the host Bobcats were upended 3-2 in overtime. This time Buchholz traveled and was beaten 3-1.

The District 1-6A runner-up Bobcats finished 17-5-3, while 2-6A champ Palm Coast improved to 22-4-1.

JACKSONVILLE BOLLES 9, FORT WHITE 0: The Indians traveled to Jacksonville and encountered the same troubles most do, as they were eliminated from the FHSAA Class 3A Region 1 quarterfinal by the defending state champions.

Bolles improved to 22-3-1 with the victory and will host its District 4 runner-up Jacksonville Episcopal (14-6-2) in Tuesday’s regional semifinals. Fort White saw its season end at 12-10-3.

PENSACOLA CATHOLIC 3, TAYLOR COUNTY 0: For the sixth time in regional tournament game history, Pensacola Catholic eliminated Taylor County from the FHSAA playoffs on Thursday night.

PCHS (12-6) will now host Santa Rosa Beach South Walton (9-5-2) in the 3A, Region 1 semifinals next Tuesday. Taylor County’s season ended at 16-7.

ST. FRANCIS: The Class 2A, Region 1 girls soccer quarterfinal between visiting Jacksonville Providence (8-9-5) and District 4-2A champion St. Francis (19-3-3) has been moved to today at 5 p.m.

Originally scheduled to be played Thursday night, the Wolves’ home field was drenched the night before by rain.

BOYS DISTRICT 3-3A CHAMPIONSHIP: Behind junior Zac Totta’s two goals, P.K. Yonge defeated Newberry 2-0 for the 3-3A title on Thursday night at Fort White High School.
