Five things of note

1. The city wrestling meet will take place Friday at Gainesville High School, beginning at 5:30 p.m. and costs $5 ($3 for students). The schedule will be Eastside-Buchholz followed by GHS-EHS and then GHS-BHS. An awards ceremony will take place at the end of the meet, according to Hurricanes’ coach Ryland Wagner.

2.The second boys basketball meeting this season between Eastside (18-4) and GHS (18-3) is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Friday at Santa Fe College. The Hurricanes won the first meeting 48-42 on Jan. 9. The rematch can be heard live at theprepzoneonline.com beginning at 7 p.m. Mike Ridaught and Marty Pallman will be on the call.

3.The FHSAA Section 4 girls weightlifting meet is scheduled for Saturday at Keystone Heights. Lifting begins at noon.

4. In addition to GHS’s 171-pound senior Jacob Harmer, floridakids.us wrestling writer John Lawton ranks Suwannee’s 103-pounder Travis Laxton as the state’s best in his weight class.

5. For the first time in 22 games this season, Hawthorne standout forward Canvis Scott did not reach double figures in points during Tuesday’s contest against Newberry. Ironically, that 35-32 victory was Scott’s senior night. Scott is averaging double figures in points and rebounds and has reached the 20-20 mark multiple times.
