A fiery Clay County wreck killed two people Tuesday night, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.

The crash occurred at about 11 p.m. on County Road 315 at Fuzzy Lane, northwest of Green Cove Springs, according to troopers.

FHP Lt. Bill Leeper said the driver, Cesar Hernandez, 25, and his passenger, Christina Neitman, 21, were both from Green Cove Springs.

Troopers said Hernandez had been driving a Ford Expedition when it traveled off the roadway after making a right turn at Fuzzy Lane, where CR 315 turns east toward U.S. 17.

The sport utility vehicle hit a tree and then caught fire. Hernandez and Neitman were pronounced dead at the scene. Neither had been wearing seatbelt, Leeper said.
