Robbers used duct tape to tie up a resident before stealing cash from the man’s home Saturday afternoon, the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office reported.
A man answered a knock at his home at The Ravines at SW 71st Way at about 2 p.m., according to the law enforcement agency. At the door, the visitor asked the resident if he had seen his dog. While the two were talking, the suspect pushed his way into the apartment. A second man also entered the home.
One of the men was armed with a handgun and forced the resident upstairs, deputies reported. The robbers used duct tape to tie the man to a chair. Then they stole cash from the resident’s safe and also took the man’s phone.
Deputies did not report that the resident was injured. He was able to get free from the duct tape, armed himself with a shotgun he had and went to a neighbor’s home to call for help.
