Corrections officer arrested on child porn charges

NAPLES Collier County sheriff's deputies arrested a 49-year-old Hendry County corrections officer after investigators say his son tipped off authorities to child pornography on his computer.

Authorities say George Easterly was charged Friday with 10 counts of possession of child pornography.

According to documents, Easterly was having problems with his computer in early December and contacted his son, who lives in Jacksonville, to help. Officials say the son found child porn images on the computer and called detectives.

Easterly was booked into the Collier County jail on Friday evening; it is unclear whether he has an attorney.

No prison for elderly man who killed wife

DELAND A Deltona man who pleaded guilty to manslaughter after killing his wife will not go to prison.

A judge sentenced 82-year-old Robert Benjo on Friday to two years of house arrest, followed by 13 years probation to fulfill a 15-year suspended prison. A defense attorney had argued that Benjo had only killed his sick, elderly wife to end her suffering.

Benjo fired a .22-caliber bullet into the head of his wife, Peggy, on June 5, 2008. His attorney said the woman suffered from cancer and Alzheimer's disease.

Benjo pleaded guilty to manslaughter in September. He could have faced a maximum of 30 years in prison.

Darryl Earl Moody, 47, spent about four years awaiting execution for the murder of a Bartow citrus grower. But his conviction and sentence were later overturned because of an illegal search.

Moody is now accused of serving as a getaway driver in the late-night robbery. He is charged with robbery with a firearm and false imprisonment. He was also arrested on charges of resisting an officer without violence and fleeing to elude.

Another man, Timothy Jones, 36, was charged with robbery with a firearm, among other charges. It was not clear if either man had an attorney.
