Officers have arrested a Leesburg woman for the shooting death of a woman whose body was found in a trash can outside a Lake City house last weekend, police reported Friday.
Johneka Columbia Johnson, 22, was arrested in Leesburg Friday for the murder of Katie Nicole Roberts, 27, according to the Lake City Police Department.
Officers did not provide a motive for Roberts' death or describe any ties between Johnson and Roberts, reporting only that the arrest was "made possible by the cooperation of friends and family of the victim."
Earlier in the week, police had said several people were being questioned about Roberts' activities leading up to her death. Officers also searched the house where the trash can and the woman's body were found and said they discovered a crime scene where evidence was collected and being processed.
Police found documents they said were related to the crime scene that had names of different people listed on them. Officers are asking those people to contact the police department. However, police did not explain why they wanted to reach these people except that they wanted "to make sure all of these people are well," according to a press release.
An autopsy confirmed that Roberts, whose body was found Jan. 17 stuffed inside a trash can at 885 Jaguar Drive, died of a gunshot wound.
