Family Fun and Safety Day set for Saturday

Alachua County's Third Annual Family Fun and Safety Day will be held Saturday in Gainesville.

The Alachua County Sheriff's Office partners with several other agencies to host the free event, while will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the K-Mart store at 900 NW 76th Blvd.

Organizers said the event is aimed at educating children and their families about the dangers kids face every day and how to respond to those dangers. Families will be able to learn about topics like stranger danger,fire safety, child safety seat installation, and firearm safety at home.

Examples of what families will find at the event include:

*Free pizza compliments of Domino's Pizza of Gainesville

*"Patches the Robot" from Alachua County Fire Rescue

*Special appearance by McGruff the Crime Dog

*Florida License on Wheels vehicle will be available to issue ID cards

for kids (parents must bring a certified copy of a birth certificate

and a Social Security card for their child to obtain an ID card

*Print- A- Kid

*Free gun locks

*ACSO Helicopter

*Free smoke detectors from Gainesville Fire Rescue and Alachua County

Fire Rescue

*ACSO RAD (Rape Aggression Defense)
