Construction on 39th Avenue near airport begins Friday

Work is scheduled to begin Friday on resurfacing the two miles of 39th Ave. between NW 23rd Terr. and the Gainesville Regional Airport

The Florida Department of Transportation said the $5.2 million project is scheduled to be completed by late summer 2009. State highway records show the road received its last major overhaul in 1988 when it was widened and resurfaced. A study in 2007 showed 20,460 vehicles traveled the roadway on average each day.

During February the planned work involves repairing sidewalks and adding wheelchair accessible ramps at the side street intersection. Intermittent daytime lane closures may be needed for the work.

Resurfacing is scheduled to begin in late February with lane closures scheduled for 8:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. State officials said access to all homes and businesses will be maintained at all times. Along with the
