Cold weather, an electrical problem or other factors may be to blame for a temporary water problem in Hawthorne overnight.
Residents noticed they did not have water early Thursday morning. Public Works Director Bill Cuthbert said the situation was very brief because once the pump on the main well was tripped, the pump on the city's back-up well kicked in.
"We're going to have en electrician look into it," said Cuthbert. "I don't know why there was a problem with the contact. It could have been the cold or maybe because so many people were letting their water run a little overnight to keep their pipes from freezing. But we're looking into it."
Hawthorne provides water to 683 meters, according to city records, and all officials said all meters were receiving water by 8:30 a.m.
