Clean-up for a pair of Monday morning crashes near the intersection of Interstates 10 and 75 required moving 200 kegs of beer and shutting down southbound traffic for a few hours.
Two people were injured in the accidents, one seriously.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the first accident happened at 7:20 a.m. in the southbound lane of I-75 about a tenth of a mile south of I-10.
The crash happened as Susan J. Logan, 54, of Lady Lake was driving south in the outside lane in a 2005 Toyota pickup.
At the same time, Oscar L. Carter, 61, of Albany, Ga., was southbound in the center lane in a 2006 Freightliner hauling a trailer that contained the beer kegs, troopers said.
In a crash report, FHP Lt. Pat Riordan said that Logan, for unknown reasons, drove the Toyota across the center and inside lanes before hitting the median guardrail.
Then the pickup returned to the freeway, where it was hit by the semi, according to the report. The semi hit the median guardrail and overturned.
Logan was taken to Lake City Medical Center in serious condition. Carter was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
Both drivers were alone in their vehicles at the time of the crash and both were wearing their seatbelts.
About five minutes later, Riordan said, there was a second crash at the scene.
A 1997 GMC pickup hit the semi trailer, coming to a stop about 8 feet inside the trailer.
The driver of the pickup, Perry M. Hull, 53, of Paulding, Ohio, had to be extracted from his truck. Riordan said Columbia County firefighters and deputies were instrumental in cleaning up the crash site and controlling traffic.
All southbound lanes were reopened shortly after 2 p.m. Monday.
