A University of Florida student remained hospitalized early Wednesday after he fell backward off a ledge of a campus garage, police reported.
The 19-year-old was undergoing surgery at an area hospital, UF police reported. The manís injuries did not appear life-threatening, said police spokesman Capt. Jeff Holcomb.
Police received an incomplete 911 call at about 3:20 a.m. and located Everett Millman on a wooden bridge between Hume Hall and Garage 5, where the accident occurred.
Holcomb said the studentís friend, who apparently had tried to call for help, said the injured man had been smoking cigarettes and was on the garageís third-floor ledge when he fell backward. He then either was helped to or able to walk to the bridge where he was located.
Holcomb estimated the student fell about 20 feet.
