About 1,500 students had gathered at the Santa Fe College gymnasium to view the inauguration of President Barack Obama on four giant screens.
The crowd - which continued to grow shortly before the noon swearing-in - were in the bleachers, in chairs and standing on the floor.
When Obama first entered the area behind the stage and could be seen on CNN, the crowd erupted in deafening applause and cheers.
Morgan Fortson, a freshman from Gainesville, was there with her softball team.
"It's really important for us to see the first black take office today," she said. Fortson said she wouldn't have missed it.
