Thank you, W.

I know that there are many people reading this paper who are glad President Bush is leaving office and would disagree with him even if he said the sky was blue. I haven't always agreed with his policies, but we all have to thank him for keeping the United States safe from attack.

There are many groups that want to harm our country. President Bush and his administration has kept us safe since Sept. 11, 2001. Remember if we don't have safety, nothing else matters.

To President-elect Obama, you were not my candidate but you are my president. We wish you all the best in your presidency because if you succeed, we all succeed.

He kept us safe

This is a letter I recently mailed to President Bush as he prepares to leave office. I am sure that Bush-haters and those with "Bush Derangement Syndrome" will disagree with me, and that is fine because our ability and right to disagree is what makes America such a great country.

"President Bush, I want to thank you first and foremost for implementing aggressive strategies and tactics that have kept us free from terrorist attack since Sept. 11, 2001.

"Without taking the fight to the enemy, we would be attacked over and over again around the world as we were under previous administrations' milquetoast practices.

"Thank you for seven years of unprecedented growth and prosperity. It was only when the Democrats took control of Congress and refused to tighten up on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, in spite of your attempts to do so, that our economy began to tumble into recession. Thank you for bringing dignity back to our highest office and the White House. Under your watch, we have not had the public embarrassment of our president engaging in sex acts with young employees, acts for which any company CEO in America would be fired on the spot.

"Thank you for not governing based on polls and focus groups, but for governing based on your knowledge and understanding of the needs of our great country.

"Of course you have made some mistakes… who wouldn't? But, I believe that history will reflect that you were an excellent president who guided America through some very difficult times.

"Thank you President Bush, good luck and Godspeed."

Get off his back

Enough already! The leftist mainstream media has achieved its goal of getting Barack Obama elected largely by continuing to attack George Bush who wasn't even running.

The endless drum beat of negativity, led by The New York Times, managed to convince a majority of uninformed Americans to vote for the least qualified candidate.

So why is it necessary for you to run, day after day, outrageously insulting cartoons on your editorial page, cartoons that unfairly malign one of the most decent and honest men ever to have held the office of president? It would serve the public better if you were to do what President Bush did in his moving and hopeful farewell address and run cartoons that carry a message of hope and optimism for the new president rather than pointlessly tear down the old one.

Mike Jones,

Archer
