Area tennis tourney features four pros

Four pro standouts will highlight the inaugural Climb for Cancer Foundation Tennis Tournament set for Westside Park Courts on Jan. 30 - Feb. 1.
The exhibition on Jan. 31 will include MaliVai Washington (Wimbledon finalist), Todd Martin (U.S. Open finalist, Wimbledon semifinalist), Brian Gottfried (Wimbledon and French Open doubles champion) and Ricardo Acuna (Wimbledon quarterfinalist), all top players from the 1990s. The match is set for 6 p.m. and costs $15 per person.
Preceding the exhibition will be a clinic that includes both the former touring pros and many of Gainesville's teaching pros. The clinic is $15 per person and starts at 4 p.m.
All proceeds will benefit UF Shands Cancer Center and UF College of Medicine Pediatric Oncology Division. The players are all volunteering their time and talents.
Tournament registration is $40 per person in singles, $40 per doubles team and $25 for juniors. Entry deadline is Jan. 27. Westside Park is located at 1001 NW 34th Street in Gainesville. For more information or to register, call Mike Oransky at 352-376-8250.
