Before former Gator David Lee finishes what is almost certain to be a career year, he will focus on rounding out what is on track to be a career month.

Through the first six games of January, Lee is averaging 17.5 points on 61.6 percent shooting for the New York Knicks. Add to that his 12.2 rebounds, 1.3 steals and 88.2 percent free-throw shooting, and you have not only the highest scoring month of his season, but the best month in the four-year career of the former McDonald's High School All-American.

Lee's best performance of the recent week came Monday in a 101-95 victory over Western Conference power New Orleans. Against the Hornets, Lee logged 24 points on 12-of-16 shooting. He also added nine rebounds, three assists, a steal and a block.

Just before the midway point of the season, Lee currently leads all former Gators in average points per game (14.9), rebounds per game (11.1) and is the only active player that averages a steal each contest (Corey Brewer also averaged one before injuring his knee, which will sideline him the rest of the year).

Not bad for a guy that new Knicks general manager Donnie Walsh declined to offer a contract extension before the season started because he wanted to see how he'd perform this year.
