Bradenton, Fla. — Authorities in the central Florida community of Manatee County say 911 dispatchers are operating out of a backup center after their system crashed earlier this afternoon.
A county spokesman says a transformer failure caused the 911 service to stop working around 2 p.m. Workers are still repairing the system, but residents can now call 911 and get through to a dispatcher.
The service was down for about 70 minutes total. The county set up alternate numbers and emergency vehicles were in the area for residents to flag down in case of emergency.
The county is asking residents to be patient as they fix the problem.
