A wanted suspect in break-ins at a Gainesville apartment complex last month was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service in Jacksonville earlier this week, police reported.
Willie Reid, 27, was in custody Wednesday at the jail in Duval County, jail records show.
Gainesville police allege Reid was in a van stopped Christmas night that matched the description of a vehicle used by suspects after burglaries at the Polo Apartments, 2330 Williston Road. Three other people in the van were arrested and charged with burglary and grand theft.
In the burglaries, the thieves entered by kicking in doors. Police allege Reid left his two children, one 2-years-old and the other 4-years-old, inside the vehicle while he committed the recent burglaries and when officers said he fled from the traffic stop.
Officers are investigating whether Reid and the three other suspects are connected to a series of more than 20 burglaries throughout northwest and southwest Gainesville last year.
