In a possible move that could have a major impact on Florida's offense next season, Urban Meyer appears close to hiring a Tim Tebow-friendly quarterback coach to replace Dan Mullen on the staff.
The Sun confirmed through sources that Scott Loeffler has emerged as the leading candidate. Meyer said after Saturday's practice that he was close to filling the position after a thorough coaching search.
"You might hear something in the next few days," Meyer said.
Loeffler held the same responsibility with the NFL's Detroit Lions this past season. Before that, Loeffler was the quarterbacks coach at Michigan, where he developed a close relationship with Tebow while trying to recruit Tebow to Michigan four years ago. Tebow said before last year's Capital One Bowl that he strongly considered Michigan because of the opportunity to be coached by Loeffler.
Now, Tebow will have his chance if he elects to return for his senior season. Tebow confirmed Friday that he has filed paperwork with the NFL to find out where he projects in the draft. Tebow said he would not make a decision until after the BCS Championship Game on Thursday night.
