QUICK QUIZ
Each day we'll give you a trivia question about Florida in bowl games. The answer is below.
Today's question: Which Florida place-kicker has the bowl game record for the longest field goal kicked and who was the opponent?
BOWL HEROES
Oklahoma
The game: 1950 Sugar Bowl
The final: Oklahoma defeated LSU 35-0
The player: Running back Leon Heath
What he did: Heath set a record that still stands in Sooner history. His 86-yard run for a touchdown is the longest in Oklahoma bowl history. In the win over LSU, Heath rushed 15 times for 170 yards. He also scored on a 34-yard run as the Sooners piled up 286 yards rushing. That allowed them to overcome eight turnovers in the game.
Florida
The game: 1953 Gator Bowl
The final: Florida defeated Tulsa 14-13
The player: Running back Rick Casares
What he did: In Florida's first-ever bowl game, Casares did it all. He scored one of Florida's touchdowns on a 2-yard run and kicked both extra points. The second extra point turned out to be the winning score when Tulsa missed a try after its second score. For the game, Casares rushed 21 times for 86 yards.
SOONER PROFILE
Ryan Broyles
Why he matters: A redshirt freshman, Broyles didn't play in the opening game but burst onto the scene in Oklahoma's second game against Cincinnati. He caught seven passes for 141 yards, the most yardage ever for an Oklahoma freshman. He finished the season with 42 catches for 661 yards and six touchdowns. The 661 yards broke the freshman record at OU. He's also the Sooner punt returner with 23 attempts for 223 yards.
STAT THAT MATTERS
456
That's the number of points Oklahoma has scored ... in the first half this season. The Sooners have wasted little time jumping on opponents (much in the same way Florida has done), limiting their foes to 150 first-half points. Oklahoma has scored at a slower pace in the second half of the blowouts, a mere 246 points in the 13 games.
QUOTE
"They are going to score some points. We know that. We just can't let them score 60."
— Florida defensive coordinator Charlie Strong
TRIVIA ANSWER
