A Newberry woman and her son are dead after a suspected murder-suicide.

Alachua County sheriff's deputies responded Wednesday about 7:20 p.m. to Nancy A. Calhoun's Newberry home, 3715 SW 202nd St. There they found Calhoun, 64, and her son, James R. Truluck, 35, with gunshot wounds to the head.

Truluck was dead at the scene. Calhoun was treated for critical injuries before being flown to Shands at the University of Florida. She died Thursday night at the hospital.

Family members had called deputies to the home. They had gone there to investigate after noticing Calhoun didn't go online as usual to chat and play games, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff's Office spokesman Art Forgey said the investigation indicates the incident was a murder-suicide. He declined to say what person is suspected of being the shooter.

"We continue to investigate as to what each role was in the shooting," he said.
