Chase, crash leads to arrest

A Starke man was arrested Friday morning after Florida Highway Patrol officers attempted a traffic stop.

Eric Smith, 37, was arrested for driving with a suspended license, reckless driving and driving without a seat belt, according to FHP.

An FHP report stated two Bradford County detectives in an unmarked vehicle saw Smith's Chevy S10 pickup stopped in the middle of NW 177th Street in Starke and initiated the traffic stop. Smith reportedly sped away and crashed his truck into a ditch while trying to drive around the metal gate at the end of NW 29th Avenue.

Smith crawled out of the window, fled on foot and was caught and arrested.
