Driver flees scene, after crash on SW 13th Street

Officers were searching from the air and on the ground for the driver of a crashed sport utility vehicle, who left the scene of the accident that occurred after officers tried to stop the vehicle, the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office reported.
Officers attempted to make a traffic stop when the vehicle crashed at the entrance of Boardwalk Apartments, 2701 SW 13th St., shortly after 2 p.m.
Sheriff’s Office spokesman Art Forgey confirmed officers were searching for the driver but said he did not have information about the motorist or why officers attempted to stop the vehicle. Deputies were not chasing the vehicle when the crash occurred, they were simply trying to make a traffic stop, he said.
Officers were stationed at different spots around the complex Wednesday afternoon, one with a police dog, as they continued to search for the missing motorist.
