The two-week period for early dancer registration for Dance Marathon at UF 2009 has ended with 972 dancers registered for the event on April 4-5.
That's an increase of almost 200 registrants from this time last year, according to Amanada Casciotti, the overall dancer relations chair for Dance Marathon at UF, who orchestrates the registration process.
Casciotti attributed the increase to the broader visibility that Dance Marathon is gaining on campus.
Dancer registration will reopen for the last time Jan. 12-22, but anyone interested in fundraising for the event is encouraged to go to www.floridadm.org to make donations.
Now in its 15th year, Dance Marathon at the University of Florida has raised more than $2.8 million, making it the largest and most successful student-run philanthropy in the Southeast. Last year's event raised a record-breaking $435,560.
Proceeds from Dance Marathon at UF are used by Children's Miracle Network to purchase medical equipment, fund pediatric research and purchase diversionary items, such as computers, games and toys.
