Florida added its third verbal commitment to the 2010 class Wednesday with the addition of West Palm Beach Dwyer athlete Matt Elam.
The 6-foot, 205 pound Elam plays safety, linebacker and running back for the Panthers, but projects to be a safety in college.
"I think with his size and explosiveness, he's a big top prospect as a safety because he really accelerates through tackles," Rivals.com recruiting analyst Barton Simmons said. "He has a lot of explosiveness in his hips and really has a chance to be one of the top safety prospects in the entire country."
Elam joins Venice quarterback Trey Burton and Fleming Island offensive lineman Ian Silberman in the Gators' 2010 class.
With such an early commitment, it's no surprise that Elam might still be interested in looking at other schools, but Simmons said he believes this commitment should stick.
"I think he's solid to Florida all the way," he said. "It was just a matter of time whenever they offered that he was going to commit."
Elam also listed interest in Florida State, Georgia and Miami.
