TAMPA, Fla. – Civil rights groups are expected to file two class action complaints on behalf of disabled students in Hillsborough and West Palm Beach counties.
The Southern Poverty Law Center says both districts have failed to provide adequate counseling and other services for students with mental disorders as required by federal law.
The group contends disabled students in West Palm Beach and Hillsborough fall behind their peers academically and are being inordinately pushed into the juvenile justice system.
The complaint seeks to bring each district into compliance with the special education law.
