Former Gator Michael Nattiel was arrested and charged with counts of carrying a concealed weapon, possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana and possession of narcotics equipment following a traffic stop Tuesday in Gainesville.
According to court records, Gainesville Police officers initially stopped Nattiel for an expired tag. After appearing nervous and confrontational toward officers, a K-9 unit responded, which indicated that the car contained narcotics.
A search of the car revealed the vehicle contained three small, clear bags which contained about 10 games of pot. In addition, cops found a black Glock 21 (.45 caliber handgun) concealed between the drivers seat and center console. After being read his Miranda rights, Nattiel said the drugs and gun were his.
Nattiel, 27, of Archer, played linebacker at Florida from 1999-2002. He's a cousin of former Gator standout receiver Ricky Nattiel.
Nattiel was released from Alachua County Jail on $7,000 bond. Calls to Nattiel were not immediately returned.
The gun charge is a third-degree felony. Both drug charges are misdemeanors.
