PENSACOLA, Fla. Officials in Pensacola Beach have been passing out pamphlets warning of deadly rip current that could continue for days.

Storm surge from Hurricane Gustav pushed water closer to fences and vegetation as high waves churned near the shore. Visitors to the popular tourist beach were light on this holiday Monday.

Emergency officials issued tornado warnings and watches throughout the morning and urged Panhandle residents to stay inside and off the roads.
