- The Albertsons supermarket in Butler Plaza is holding a liquidation sale as it prepares to close before Publix takes over. Groceries and other merchandise are discounted 5 percent to 50 percent. The sale began July 31 and should last two or three more weeks, according to spokesman Shane McEntarffer. The store will continue to take deliveries on fresh produce and meat until the days before the inventory is sold out and the store closes. Publix officially takes ownership in September, but has no specific plans on openings until it can assess what work needs to be done to convert the 49 Florida Albertsons it agreed in June to purchase, according to spokeswoman Maria Brous. Albertsons will continue to operate its store at 2323 NW 13th St. The city of Lavonia, Ga., went to court, but was not able to shut Club Risque until negotiating its purchase with new owners, The Associated Press reported. Sullivan died in 2006. Since the club opened, the town passed an ordinance outlawing adult entertainment businesses.
- Whole Foods' name has been bandied about since Gainesville Realtor Mitch Glaeser, a partner at Tower Center, said he was negotiating with a "national organic supermarket" to fill the former Winn-Dixie space in the shopping center off of Tower Road near The Home Depot. Glaeser said Wednesday that Whole Foods is one of many companies he has talked to. "That does not mean they are coming there," he said. "We are continuing to work with several companies that are looking at Tower Center even as we speak." Any company that locates in a large retail location is going to do a lot of preliminary work and take a lot of time before making an announcement, he said.
