Daily Fix - Aug. 3

It's almost here but you still have to get through most of August until football season is finally here. So we're giving you a daily football fix leading right up to the first games on Aug. 28. Sun sports writers Pat Dooley and Robbie Andreu will provide lists, trivia, Swampcasts and essays to get you through the rest of the summer.

Today, Andreu ranks the position groups at Florida heading into preseason practice:

1. Quarterback: Tim Tebow. That's pretty much all that has to be said. He's coming off a Heisman-winning season and may have a chance to pull off a rare Heisman double (or maybe even triple).

2. Receivers: Percy Harvin is one of the nation's most explosive players, and tight end Cornelius Ingram is a big-timer in his own right.

3. Offensive line: With three senior starters, this could be the best offensive front the Gators have put on the field since The Great Wall in 1984. It's a talented and experienced group.

4. Special teams: The Gators may have the best return specialist in college football in Brandon James. Chas Henry is an experienced punter and true freshman kicker Caleb Sturgis has a huge leg.

5. Linebacker: Brandon Spikes has a chance to become one of the all-time great linebackers in school history. The coaches also are expecting junior Dustin Doe to have a breakout season.

6. Defensive line: The Gators appear in good shape at end with Jermaine Cunningham and Carlos Dunlap, but the tackle positions are still a question mark.

7. Secondary: The depleted safety positions are a major concern. The Gators should be much improved at the cornerback positions, where there finally is some depth.
