It all starts at quarterback, and the Gators have one of the most dynamic players in the nation at the position in Tebow, the first sophomore to ever win the Heisman Trophy. Tebow's rushing numbers probably will not match last season's — which is a good sign. It means the Gators should get more (and more consistent) production out of the tailback position, where UF appears to have a combustible combination of power and speed. The hard-working Moore has earned the right to start, but chances are good he'll be sharing time with as many as three others — Rainey, who had a huge spring game, Moody and James. Based on the spring, the tailbacks will be more involved in the passing game this season.

The downside

The Gators will enter two-a-days still uncertain who will be backing up Tebow. Brantley missed the bulk of the spring recovering from a shoulder injury, and Newton struggled with consistency, especially in the passing game. The plan is to play two quarterbacks like UF did in 2006, but a strong No. 2 guy has to emerge for that to happen. Another negative is that Florida still does not have what appears to be a dynamic, dominant, every-down tailback. Also, Moore lost crucial fumbles last season in losses to LSU and Georgia, and Moody wrecked his outstanding performance in the spring game when he fumbled in the end zone. Meyer is adamant that fumblers will not play in this offense.

Young guy to watch

The Gators are pretty stacked at tailback (and that's even without listing Percy Harvin, who will line up some in the backfield), but Demps, a true freshman, is the fastest player on the team and his world-class speed will make it tempting to put the ball in his hands at least a few times a game. Some have concluded that Demps is a track star playing football. That is not correct. He is a football player who happens to be very fast.
