No. 13 Derek Pegues

Why he's No. 13: One of the nation's best defensive backs, Pegues was named the 2007 Liberty Bowl MVP after intercepting two passes in the second half of MSU's 10-3 victory against Central Florida. He enters the season with 10 career interceptions, good for fifth on the Bulldogs' career list. Also a prolific special teams player, Pegues has a career punt return average of 11.7 yards and kickoff return average of 22.1. Two of the 35 punts he has returned have gone back for touchdowns.

Key number: 3. With a big senior season, Pegues could make himself the top free safety taken in the 2009 NFL draft. CollegeFootballNews.com ranked '09-draft-eligible players by position in late April, and Pegues was rated third behind Missouri's William Moore and South Florida junior Nate Allen.

Fun fact: His cousin is NFL veteran linebacker Dwayne Rudd, a former Alabama standout.
