A Lake City man was killed and a Jasper couple injured during a Friday night accident in Lake City.

Dead is Ricky Lavelle Mobley, 40, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Hospitalized with serious injuries were David E. Black, 67, and Geraldine Black, 61, both of Jasper.

The accident occurred at 10:30 p.m. on U.S. 90 two miles west of Lake City, reported FHP.

Mobley was driving a 1997 Acura sedan east on U.S. 90 with Charlie Arther Pate, 37, of Lake City as a passenger, according to FHP. Black was driving westbound on U.S. 90 in a 1997 Buick sedan.

The report stated that Mobley attempted to pass another eastbound vehicle and then swerved back into the right lane.

However, Black’s car struck the right rear side of Mobley’s car, causing it to spin clockwise off the road, the report stated. Mobley was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown from the car. He was dead at the scene.

The FHP report states the accident was alcohol-related.

The Blacks were taken to Lake City Medical Center. The extent of Pate’s injuries could not be determined Saturday night.
