Missing diver found alive after 21 hours

FORT PIERCE - A diver has been found safe after going missing for approximately 21 hours while diving off Florida's east coast.

Coast Guard officials found Patrick Scartozzi around 10 a.m. on Saturday, and he was reported to be alive and responsive.

Scartozzi had been missing since Friday afternoon when he went diving about 6 miles off St. Lucie Inlet.

The 46-year-old firefighter went for what was supposed to be a 25-minute dive but did not reappear at the set time. He was then reported missing.

Scartozzi was being transported to the hospital for evaluation.

Weapon, ammunition stolen from patrol car

DAYTONA BEACH - A Volusia County Sheriff's deputy has learned about crime firsthand.

He had his shotgun and ammunition stolen from his marked patrol car.

The crime happened after the deputy left the keys in his car's ignition and parked it overnight.

The Sheriff's office says the items were stolen May 24.

They say that the officer violated office policy by leaving the car's keys in the ignition.

The weapon, however, was properly locked in its rack.

It was not clear if or how the officer would be punished for the incident.
