A Gainesville Police officer resigned from the Police Department last week and is the subject of an ongoing internal investigation, the agency confirmed Tuesday.

John Bostick resigned on Friday, police spokeswoman Officer Summer Hallett said.

Hallett said she could not provide other information about Bostick's resignation but confirmed that there is an ongoing internal investigation involving the former GPD officer.

Bostick had been sworn-in as an officer in 2000, Hallett said. He worked in patrol for the department and had been assigned to the agency's Tactical Impact Unit. The group investigates a variety of reports, ranging from alleged drug activity to weapons violations, in an effort to stem violent crimes such as robberies.

Law enforcement sources have indicated the internal review involves drug investigations conducted by officers.
