A 35-year-old man is being treated for multiple gunshot wounds following an altercation Sunday night in the 2100 block of SW 70th Terrace.
The shooter, a 27-year-old man, was questioned by police and released after he cooperated with authorities, said Lt. Art Forgey with the Alachua County Sheriff's Office.
At 10:20 p.m. a group of people were standing around a pickup when witnesses say the victim approached "acting irrationally and threateningly," Forgey said.
"They asked him to leave several times and that's why we're not releasing any more information," said Forgey, adding they aren't certain whether the shooter is a suspect or a victim in this case.

Warrants sweep nets 14 on traffic violations
Fourteen people were arrested Monday in Alachua County as part of a warrants sweep for traffic violations.
The arrests were made for outstanding warrants on violations such as driving with a suspended license, said Lt. Stephen Maynard, spokesman for the Alachua County Sheriff's Office. The violators had failed to respond to written or telephone notice of the warrants, he said.
"The message is you can turn yourself in on your terms, or you can come in on our terms," he said.
A team of sheriff's deputies, Florida state troopers and Gainesville police officers conducted the warrants sweep. Maynard said they started working at 5 a.m., arresting people at home and work.
There are about 4,000 active traffic warrants in the county, he said. Monday's operation included 62 attempts that cleared 22 warrants on 14 different individuals.
"We're going to do a lot more in the future," Maynard said.

Man convicted of killing girlfriend gets death
ORLANDO - A Central Florida man convicted of killing his ex-girlfriend by setting her on fire was sentenced to death Monday.
Orange County Circuit Judge Lisa Munyon followed a jury's recommendation when she sentenced Dane Abdool, 21. With the order, Abdool became one of the youngest people on Florida's Death Row.
Abdool's attorney Kelly Sims said the decision was expected, but he's not sure if his client has fully grasped the enormity of the sentence.
In December, a jury found Abdool guilty of first-degree murder for the 2006 death of Amelia Sookdeo, 17.
Abdool, of Ocoee, acknowledged killing Sookdeo, of Winter Garden. He told police the two got into an argument because he thought she was pregnant. An investigation by medical examiners revealed no evidence of pregnancy.
