Mailing a letter will cost more as of Monday

The price of mailing a first-class letter goes up a penny to 42 cents starting Monday.
Forever stamps — good for first-class letters in perpetuity — will be available for 41 cents until Monday at postal service locations and at www.usps.com/.
Gainesville post offices have sold a little bit more of the forever stamps in anticipation of the rate hike, but have an ample supply, according to Jason Knott, customer relations coordinator.
Under 2006 legislation, the U.S. Postal Service will adjust prices for mailing services each May at or below the rate of inflation.
The postal service is also changing prices for 2-ounce letters, postcards, large envelopes, certified and international mail, among other adjustments.
The rate hike is the fifth since 2001.
