BATON ROUGE, La. — Francesca Enea's home run and the pitching of Stephanie Brombacher and Stacey Nelson lifted No. 1 Florida into today's SEC Tournament semifinals with a 1-0 win over Ole Miss on Thursday.
Florida (60-2) faces fourth-seeded Tennessee (47-13), which defeated fifth-seeded Georgia 5-2 in the first game of the tournament, at 6 p.m. today. The game will air live on WRUF AM-850.
Brombacher (19-0) pitched six innings, giving up only two hits and allowing only three runners on base. She struck out three Rebel batters. The Rebels broke up Brombacher’s no hitter with one out in the top of the fifth as Michelle May hit a deep infield single and just beat out Megan Bush’s throw to first.
Nelson, UF's No. 1 pitcher, tossed the final inning to earn her fifth save of the year. Becky Nye took the loss for Ole Miss to end her season with a 12-11 record.
Enea's 14th home run of the season came in the bottom of the sixth. UF's defense made it stand up in the seventh against Ole Miss (26-28).
Amber Tramp was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. Nelson then struck out the following batter and forced Michelle May to line into an unassisted double play to junior Ali Gardiner to end the game.
