Florida outside linebacker Jerimy Finch has been released by the University of Florida and will transfer to another school, University of Florida officials confirmed Monday.
Finch, who suffered a knee injury while being tackled after making an interception late in the Tennessee game last year and missed the rest of his freshman season, was having trouble in the classroom and missed some spring practices for extra tutoring. He was also dealing with issues back home in Indiana where he has two children.
Finch was in on seven tackles in three games last season. Indiana is the only school specified in the release granted by UF.
Finch was a surprise in the 2007 recruiting class for Urban Meyer, who noticed his name on a Web site as an Indiana commitment. Meyer talked to Finch's high school coach and decided to offer a scholarship to the free safety.
After the devastating injury last year, Finch was expected to compete for playing time at outside linebacker in the spring but struggled to learn defenses.
